Should families be forced to donate our organs after we die?

Post by wiseguy on Thu Nov 04, 2010 12:42 pm

a record number of organ transplants took place last year, but the NHS still report long waiting lists for organs. How can the system be improved?

Sally Johnson, director of Organ Donation and Transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) said huge improvements had been made in the way the organisation works in hospitals. But the refusal of relatives to allow donation often remains a key obstacle.

I offered a kidney to my sister a couple of years ago , I was a perfect match but due to my medical state I was told I would never be allowed to donate blood nor any of my organs! myself I have a DNR on my records as I will not accept any organs from others if I can not give something back (if you understand whare I am coming from)

"Do Not Rescacitate" I suffer serious pain Dailly and would not want to be brought back if I suffer brain damage or something like that so I have what is called a living will ! could you imagine being in constant pain and not being able to let them know ? I am terrified of it being honest!! hence "DNR"

If you go for "DNR" you must let your family know and sign a living will!!!

I have alway carried a organ donation card with me but as my health isn't good now i wouldn't be any good for a donor.IMO why not be a donor if you are fit enough.

I'm a donor but also think it's a personal choice..I wont force any of my family to do it or go against their wishes..though my hubby isn't keen on giving anything of me away (or cremate me) I've had to set up what I want done with my daughter..at 15 she knows exactly what needs to be done if I go and she doesn't mind and has already told her dad in a matter of fact voice with foot down 'she's getting cremated and they can take everything they need from her..I'm dealing with it' ..so that was him told
